Weekend Graded Stakes Roundup – San Gorgonio Kicks Off New Year

Written by trackmasterplus on December 31, 2009 – 2:30 pm -

Only one Graded Stakes race of note this weekend, Saturday’s $150,000 Grade II San Gorgonio Handicap at Santa Anita. The race is expected to attract 2009 Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic winner Life Is Sweet. The full field was not available at press time but was expected to also include multiple Grade I winner Diamondrella.

Gulfstreak Park opens on Sunday and the opening day feature is the $100,000 Grade III Hal’s Hope Handicap. All eyes will be on Quality Road, whose mental meltdown at the starting gate of the Breeders’ Cup Classic caused him to be scratched from that race. Class-wise he’s head-and-shoulders best of this field if they can get him in the gate.
